Underbrush Removal
Take the junk out and leave the timber standing. Privet, briars, greenbrier, kudzu, honeysuckle and sapling growth cleared out from under trees you want to keep.
Clearing under, not clearing off
A lot of land out here isn't overgrown so much as choked. The canopy is fine — good hardwood, healthy pine — but you can't walk through it, can't hunt it, can't see across it, and the young timber can't get going because the understory has taken everything.
Mulching the understory out solves that in one pass without touching the trees you're keeping. What you get back is open woods you can actually use.
Privet and kudzu
Chinese privet is the single worst offender in West Alabama and it takes over a bottom faster than anything else growing. Kudzu is close behind. Neither dies from one pass — both come back from the root — but mulching knocks them down to nothing, makes the ground usable again, and puts you in a position where a follow-up treatment can actually reach them. Anyone promising a permanent kill in one visit is guessing.

Underbrush Removal — questions we get asked
Will it hurt the trees I'm keeping?
No. The head works below the canopy and around the trunks. We work at a pace that lets the operator see what he's doing rather than making time and scarring bark.
How often does it need doing again?
On heavy privet or kudzu, expect regrowth within a year or two. The second pass is far quicker and cheaper than the first. On lighter mixed brush it can be several years.
